The Promise Zone is recruiting Promise Corps College and Career Ambassadors for the 2017-2018 School Year
The West Philadelphia Promise Zone, a federally designated anti-poverty initiative, is recruiting members to support the implementation of the three-year award from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS). We are searching for 25 AmeriCorps members, who will receive training in college and career readiness to serve in four public high schools in West Philadelphia. Multiple public, nonprofit, academic, and private agencies collaborate on the Promise Zone, and the Promise Corps program is a key component of the Promise Zone education work. The Promise Corps is an initiative of the City of Philadelphia, in partnership with the School District of Philadelphia. The 2017-2018 school year will be the third year of its implementation.
Promise Corps College and Career Ambassadors (CCAs) will be placed in one of four high schools in Philadelphia’s Promise Zone. The high schools are West Philadelphia, Overbrook, High School of the Future, and Sayre High School. CCAs will work with high school students and families to ensure that they graduate from high school with strong skill sets, and develop awareness of paths and challenges related to postsecondary opportunities, while working with students to help them develop long-term plans leading to postsecondary entry. CCAs will work with school teachers, administrators, and guidance counselors to identify and recruit students who need additional support.
